The Palace of Depression
Vineland has had it's share of eccentric personalities, but none so world famous as George Daynor. A former gold prospector, Daynor came to Vineland with less than $10 in his pocket, bought a junkyard on Mill Road in the 1930's, and proceeded to build his home from the debris he called the Palace of Depression. Ingenious engineering and clever use of materials quickly turned his home into a tourist attraction for many years. Re-enactor Kevin Kirchner portrays Daynor and leads a non-profit organization in the re-building of the Palace on the very site of the original which will be opened to the public in the next couple of years. Visit http://amusementparknostalgia.com/indpd.html to learn more about the Palace, Daynor, and the rebuilding efforts.
