Preserving Local History through Performance Storytelling
Ed and Kathryn Ross serve on the Board of Directors of the local non-profit organization, The Friends of Historic Vineland. Founded in 1997 by a group of local volunteers, this historic preservation organization seeks ways to educate the community and celebrate their hometown in the shadow of it's founder, Charles K. Landis, and his vision of a model city as per their mission statement:
The Friends of Historic Vineland exist to foster public awareness and community pride in the rich and diverse history of Vineland, New Jersey. This is accomplished through historical and cultural arts education programs and family friendly celebration events imparting a vision for the future, as inspired by the past, to the present youth of Vineland - the next generation of history makers in this great city.
Miss Kathy is especially active in the group as the Program Facilitator of the annual Founder's Day weekend, and the Grant Administrator of the Friends of Historic Vineland Speaker's Bureau.
FOUNDER'S DAY: The Friend's flagship event, held the third weekend in May, features over forty historical exhibits with costumed re-enactors of Vineland and Civil War history. At this annual event, history is taught through exhibit, drama, art, and old-fashioned family fun!
SPEAKER'S BUREAU:Sponsored by a grant from Progresso Foods/General Mills, costumed re-enactors bring speaking programs free of charge to local classrooms and community groups.
