Pageant Wagon Newsletter
October 5, 2008
Welcome to the first Pageant Wagon Newsletter - designed to keep you informed about the many story and speaking programs available to your school, church, library, elder care facility, adult day care facility, community group/event, or professional development workshop.
Once upon a time . . . in October, 2008, Pageant Wagon Productions was busy preparing for a quickly approaching holiday season of storytelling and festive speaking programs for children of all ages!
THIS MONTH: Miss Kathy has been pulling together a number of classic stories with just a mite of fright and a morsel of a moral for life lessons worth living with her NEW "Scare Dee Cat Tales." Mr. Ed takes center stage as the storyteller in Washington Irving's classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, in which he plays all the parts - Ichobod Crane, Bram Bones, the horse, etc - while Miss Kathy fills in the role of Katrina - plus a little help from enthusiastic audiences!
Miss Kathy is also adapting this tale for her own solo performance helping youngsters to take on all the roles, in addition to The Pied Piper of Hamelin and her own original story, The Jester and the Black Knight. Plus, her annual performance of Mary Howitt's classic story poem, The Spider and the Fly is always a treat. These entertaining, family-friendly performance programs are adaptable for preschool through middle school and feature opportunities for literacy enrichment and character values education. They are perfect for elder care and adult day care programming, too!
COMING UP: November brings the Harvest in all it's beauty and bounty of color, home, and family. Miss Kathy's enrichment story programs for preschool classrooms and elementary assemblies are a delightful compliment to the seasonal icons of scarecrows, pumpkins, pilgrims and Indians, plus a turkey or two for great fun. Hear the story of the first Thanksgiving as told through a folksong written in 1623 at Plimoth Plantation, and learn how the Native American Indians were so important to the success of the early years of colonization in America. With plenty of props and costume accessories for audience participation, The Thanksgiving Tales and the epic From Leyden to Liberty are adaptable for preschool through adult audiences.
CHRISTMAS 'ROUND THE CORNER: December pops open the Pageant Wagon theatre trunks with festive story displays, costuming, and unique tales of the season! This year's Toy Store Window is a special adaptation of the Inspirational Speaking Program, Vintage Toys and Childhood Treasures, featuring a display of old-fashioned toys from the early to mid-20th century gathered under a 1950's alumimum Christmas Tree with equally vintage glass ornaments and plenty of stories to go around of Christmases past, present, and future. Not to mention a special adaptation of Charles Dicken's, A Christmas Carol, in Miss Kathy's Victorian Christmas celebration. Celebrate the true meaning of the season through traditional carols and stories - and help tell the stories through audience participation with a prop or costume accessory from above mentioned theatre trunk!
