A Breath of Autumn!
October 12, 2009
October Greetings to You!
A breath of Autumn breezes brings seasonal stories with Miss Kathy and Pageant Wagon Productions . . .
MISS KATHY'S DRAMA CATS at the Vineland Public Charter School are well into the season with a September performance under our belts as we jump into the colorful elements of storytelling with all the joy of jumping into a pile of crispy and colorful autumn leaves! The true story of the Monarch butterfly showed us how stories - like butterflies - have a beggining a middle and an end. Sixth grade English lessons broken down into little pieces introduced kindergarten through second graders to the "story mountain" with the "climax" and "resolution" so important to storytelling. October classes feature more stories where discussions about character and plot follow. All this in preparation for our creative Drama Cats to work in groups creating stories of their own that will be turned into plays to act out. Visit my website and click on the VPCS Drama Cats index button to see pictures and learn all about my specially tailored program for the school - bringing an alternative in academics through the foundation of the performing arts and creativity to Cumberland County!
TALE SPIN STORIES said "goodbye" to many regular Talespinners who trotted off to school, but have welcomed a slew of new Talespinner faces for a fresh season of storytelling fun! Don't miss all the biz every Tuesday, at 10:30am, at Center Court in Cumberland Mall in Vineland. See you there!
PAGEANT WAGON PARABLE PLAYER'S HOME SCHOOL THEATRE FALL SEMESTER: Our HOLIDAY RADIO REVIEW is moving forward in rehearsals with much laughter along the way. How could it not with such hilarious characters as Marshall Mission and Brillo Boy and the personified Hustle and Bustle of the Holiday Season? Crazy hats and weather reports and music to boot! Check out the Home School Theatre page of our website for scrapbook photos of rehearsal fun! And come see our performance and awards night on Friday, December 4, at 7:00pm, at Calvary Chapel Vineland - just south of Oak on Main Road.
Interested in the upcoming semester of PWP Parable Players Home School Theatre? Spring 2010 semester - SING A SONG OF SHAKESPEARE is coming soon, too. Thirteen sessions run for 12 weeks, starting in February, on Mondays from 1:00pm-3:30pm. Tuition is $20 per child per session. Contact Miss Kathy now to enroll!
CHARACTER EDUCATION THROUGH FAIRY TALES is the theme when Miss Kathy visits the R.D. Wood School in Millville this month. What lessons does Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks have to teach us? Miss Kathy helps youngsters figure it all out between laughs when students actually participate in the storytelling! Call Miss Kathy to book a Character Education program for your own school or student group!
STILL A FEW DATES LEFT for Holiday programs in November and December. But hurry - they won't last long. It's a busy season for everyone and Pageant Wagon Productions is right in the middle of it with enrichment programs for one and all featuring a Victorian Christmas with Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," Nostalgic Christmas Days, Thanksgiving Tales and more! Call Miss kathy at 856 205-9334 for details and information!
PROGRAMS FOR LOVERS OF LITERATURE AND HISTORY continue to be a focus at PWP, with Miss Kathy and Mr. Ed both doing the research and gathering the props and costumes for a fascinating journey into a book or into the past:
STROLLING THROUGH EMILY'S GARDEN with Miss Kathy as Emily Dickinson comes with a huge display of foliage and poetry wrapping a biography of Miss Dickinson around her love of flowers and nature. Also in this series is A JANE AUSTEN TEA, BEATRIX POTTER TEA, and REVOLUTIONARY WOMEN featuring salutes to American matriarchs and role models, Betsy Ross, Abigail Adams, and Sarah Hale! This program can be adapted for elementary and middle schools, too!
IN THE WORKS - Miss Kathy brings Colonial era AMERICAN HISTORY to life as a Revolutionary bookbinder collecting the stories of our Founding Fathers - their words, deeds and definitions - and the price they paid for our American freedom, in this old-fashioned patriotic salute to traditional American values.
These programs are adaptable for SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, COMMUNITY GROUPS, and ELDER CARE FACILITIES. Remember to BOOK EARLY FOR CHOICE DATES!
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS - BOOK NOW FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2009-2010: Contact Miss Kathy and ask about her Classic Literature Book Dramatizations for the classroom! Newbery Honor book, "The Golden Goblet" by Eloise Jarvis McGraw and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C. S. Lewis, are just two of the tales Miss Kathy will be sharing at local elementary schools this spring. Programs feature an adapted retelling of a classic for all, and may include a follow-up interactive workshop especially geared to LEAP students!
MELODRAMA 2010: Production has begun for our annual Melodrama Summer Teatre for 2010, "HOOLIGANS AT HIGH TIDE - A Seaside Whale of a Tale!" featuring gypsies, whalers, mad lighthouse keepers, pirates, and lepidopterists (that's butterfly lovers for the layman!) I'm in the research stages just now, but we have gathered some important set pieces and are mapping out costume and lighting ideas in addition to plot and character outlines. More information coming!
